Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Arkansas

Taxes on land in an estate

My mother has been paying the taxes on two parcels of

land that are in my greatuncle's estate. The property

belongs half to his widow and half to his other heirs, of

which my father was one. My mother has paid the taxes

for over 40 years. Does she have any rights to recover

any of these taxes or any of the land from the widow,

who has never paid a cent?

I would need some more information to see if your mother could collect on the taxes she paid.

Why was she paying the taxes? Was there some type of agreement or contract? Was the property just in your great uncle's name? Has the estate already been probated and distributed? I assume there is a will.

If your mother is entitled to any of the money back that she paid in taxes, she would likely need to make a claim on the estate, rather than just against the widow, since the property wasn't hers before your greatuncle's passing.
