Legal Question in Criminal Law in Australia
How can some one be given double penalty (14 years in jail) if an actual or even threat of a weapon is used in a robbery apposed to 7 year in jail for no weapon involvement?

Robbery armed with a dangerous weapon is a far more serious charge than robbery without a dangerous weapon and is treated more seriously by the courts. It attracts a higher maximum penalty because the legislature is of the view that having a dangerous weapon such as a gun when committing a robbery is more serious than having no weapon at all or having just an offensive weapon such a stick
