Legal Question in Family Law in Australia

Help!

Im 14/7months old. For the past 6 months i have been living with my dad (when he is here, otherwise he is at work for 1 month) and for the month when he is not here my dads partner has been looking after me. Last night my dad and his partner decided that the relationship isn't working and its time to break up.so they did.now i have no one to look after me for the time my dad is away working,in karratha. before i moved in with my dad, i lived with my mum and the reason why i moved out of there in the first place was because i got threatened, and got mental abuse.how old is the leagal age to be home by myself?

Re: Help!

Hi. Strictly speaking the law says that you are a child until you turn 18. However, there are some Government Departments and agencies that will help you in the circumstances that you find yourself in. If your contact the Department of Families, they will help you apply for living allowance and help you get established yourself. They will also help put you in touch with counsellors etc to help you with the family breakdown issues. My advice is - dont be afraid to ask for as much help as you can get.

Good luck
