Legal Question in Family Law in Australia

How to sue an unfaithful international fiancee

I recently found out that my fiancee was unfaithful to me. He lived in Australia (currently moving to another country) and I live in the US. I would like to find out if it is possible to sue him for money I spent to continue the relationship after he started cheating (ie plane tickets, cost of quitting a job to move there, shipping costs, phone calls, etc.). I have everything we submitted to the Australian consulate for me to receive my potential marriage partner visa which was granted (prior to his cheating); this seems to me to amount to a contract. Is it possible to sue? How do I proceed? He frequently travels to the US. Is it possible to prove pain and suffering if this caused a severe depression and he knew that I was prone to depression?

Re: How to sue an unfaithful international fiancee

I cannot advise you with respect to what the law is in any of the United States. In Australia, there is generally speaking no contract to marry, such contracts being void for public policy. It is possible that there are some types of action that could be successfully run, but one has to wonder whether or not the costs of running such an action, not to mention the additional emotional energy needed, would make such an action worth it?
