who are permitted to act as witnesses when witnessing a will?

The rule of thumb is that the witnesses (there should be two) must be adults (over 18) and not a beneficiary or the spouse or partner of a beneficiary under the will. Best practice is that the witnesses are there at the same time as the willmaker signs and that all sign each page of the will using the same pen.
