Firstly, the Muslim is required to give up his religion by swearing affidavit before notary public stating that from now he/she neither is not the follower of Islam nor professes any other religion. Secondly, the couple will appear before the Special Marriage Registrar who will register their marriage on payment of certain fees.

The Hindu does not need to leave his/her religion according to law.
