Legal Question in Family Law in Brazil

Divorced Outside of USA - Will the US Honor the Terms of the Divorce / Custody

My fiance was married outside of the US and then moved to the US. He and his ex-wife separated and filed for divorce in the country they were married in (not the US). The terms of their divorce and custody of their child was decided by a non-US court. Currently, he resides here in the US and his ex-wife and child reside in her home country. Are the terms of this divorce / custody agreement honored in the US or do they need to file for a divorce here in the US too? If she decides to move back to the US would their be any legal complications?

The answer depends on the procedures followed in the foreign country as to whether it is valid here. I would have to have more information and a copy of the papers to give an answer.
