Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

boyfriend was arrested for the first time ever 2 months ago. still in custody. no bail reduction or OR offered or plea deal either. case went to preliminarly hearing and victium impeached himself and case still went forward. pretail coming up. before arriagement my boyfriend didnt even get to speak with his PD. charges are assult w/deadly weapon, criminal intent, misdeamnor battery. DA has no weapon.
