Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in California

Name change on a minor

I am divorced, I have full legal and physical custody of my 7 year old son. He wants to change his name to my new married name, do I need me ex husbands permission to change his name? Not sure if it matters but my ex is in the military.

If you do not have your ex husband's permission, you'll have to set a hearing to give him notice and the opportunity to be heard as to whether the name change is appropriate.
