Legal Question in Disability Law in California

How to be declared legally disabled

I have been sick and disabled with 3 chronic illnesses for the past 11 months. I am NOT on SSI or Disability, at this point my family is able to help financially, so I have chosen not to apply. I need to know how to be declared legally disabled. I will be in graduarte studies at Cal Poly, I would like to know what proof I need to have to be enabled to use the disabled student services. I need the sevices they offer because of my disability. Can you please advise me as to what steps I need to take to be declared legally disabled, if that is what I need to do. If there are other option let me know. Thank for your time.

Re: How to be declared legally disabled

As far as collecting disability from the Gov., your doctor files the forms for you if you ask him to. as far as the school, there is not law or rule that is standard. just ask the school what they need. i'm sure a letter from the doctor would take care of it.

Mr. Koury is correct. Once you submit a letter from your doctor the state should put you on temporary disability. If you need to apply for permanent disability, you will have to fily a separate claim. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact my office, which is located in S.L.O. My number is 805-546-9918.
