Legal Question in Administrative Law in California
Compensation for subject of photo
I am a photographer and sell my work professionally. If I take a photograph of a person's automobile and sell that photograph, is the car's owner entitled to compensation of some sort of recognition?

I can't say you wouldn't be sued and have to put up a defense at some expense - it's all too easy to file a suit whether the case is good or not; but I'd think you would have a very strong defense, with the possible exception that if the auto was either highly customized or had been in a notorious wreck or crime, your defense could be somewhat less strong. In the latter case, if the photo had real news value, you would have an even stronger case based on freedom of the press, etc.
