"Good cause" has many definitions in many different legal situations. "Good cause" for a continuance of a trial or hearing is defined in Section 9 of the Standards of Judicial Administration (courtinfo.ca.gov/rules).

"Good Cause" means circumstances sufficient to justify the requested order or other action, as determined by the judge. See C.C.P., section 116.130 (j). This is the most common definition used in the cases.
