Is it legal to copy the pages of a US passport where the stamp is made of the countries visited?

Apparently it is legal. Quite a few travel web sites recommend doing so as a record of travel, and the U.S. Passport Agency recommends that foreign travelers to the U.S. make and retain copies of their passport personal-data pages and visas.
