If your father died in Tennessee, his will and his property after death would be governed by Tennessee laws. Did he have a will? A living trust? Were there other heirs, perhaps a wife? How long ago did he die? Was there a probate of his will? Is the car registered in Tennessee or in California? The car may belong to you, but the California Department of Motor Vehcles is going to need some documentation as to how ownership passed from a gentleman in Tennessee into your hands. I don't know exactly what evidence of his death and your inheritance they'll require, but probably something more or less official. You'll probably need to re-ask this as a Tennessee question, and please try to provide a lot more info, so our lawyers in TN can have a more complete picture.
