Legal Question in Administrative Law in California

signing that I received a document

My employer wants me to sign a document that states ''my signature ... serves as an acknowledgment of receipt of the...policy manual'' when in fact they have asked me to either read it online or download and print a copy of this 70+ page document at home or at a print shop. Is it legal to require me to acknowledge receipt when they didn't actually give me a copy?

Print it out, when you need it you won't be able to download it anymore.
