does a uniformed police officer

does a uniformed police officer have to give you their name and badge number while on duty when asked by law? also when you make a formal complaint against a police officer and you feel that you were given the runaround by their supervisor where can you persue this higher?

I believe they are required to and that it is also general police department rules to do so as long as it is not part of resisting an officer. Most departments have an internal affairs divisions that investigate police officer misconduct. There are various civilian groups that also monitor the police, who may be able to help.

Police departments almost always have citizen complaint departments or specialists - often civilian employees - whose job it is to hear and investigate complaints. The easiest way to find these departments is to do an on-line search through the city or county Web site and then the department's site, but a few phone calls after carefully checking the government pages of the phone book should also be effective.
