It would help if you could tell us more information regarding the nature of your appeal. In California's civil procedure, there are three different types of appeals. There are small claims appeals, which are heard de novo in the superior court. Appeals from limited civil jurisdiction cases are heard by the appellate department of the Superior Court. Appeals from unlimited civil cases are heard by the Court of Appeal. Each of these are different court system, and governed by different rules.
