lowering restitution amount

I was court ordered to pay a large restitution to the state. Can I appeal for a much lower amount? And how low? The original amount was for 82 thousand, I have paid a few thousand of it already, but I would like to negotiate a lower amount that I can just pay off. The restitution was related to a Federal case that I was given probation for and completed already.
