Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in California

Pictures were shown to the jury of female battered and bruised. The female on the picture was never named a victim or a witness, but the judge allowed the pictures to be shown to the jury to prove that the defendant had the propensity to commit violence against a woman. Is this a violation of the defendants constitutional rights? Does this justify grounds for a new trial? If the criminal defendants co-defendant is offered a deal for 20 years - is the criminal defendant privy to the same 20 years in which his co-defendant is offered?

I would need to know more about these photos and what the jury learned about them. And no, a deal offered to one co-defendant is not automatically available to the others.

I am a certified appellate specialist (per the State Bar of California's Board of Legal Specialization) with many years of relevant experience. Please feel free to contact me directly if you want to discuss this case in more detail.
