Legal Question in Banking Law in California
2 party check
My step-father has signed over a check from his credit union, made out to his name, to pay me back money owed. He endorsed check and put'''pay to order of....'' on back of check for me to endorse. can this be deposited into my bank account after I endorse check?

Legally it is OK, but many banks may hassle you or even demand that you bring stepdad into the bank to verify his identity. Since the credit union has a copy of his signature on file, maybe your first and best option is to attempt to negotiate the check at the credit union.
