Legal Question in Banking Law in California

Bad check

Couple of my checks bounced and the amount is pretty high. The merchant sent one check got to the district attorney's office and the other two checks he sent to a law firm, I wanted to know if I can these checks through a monthly payment plan or do I have pay off the whole amount now? What happens if I can't make the payment of the checks?

Re: Bad check

It is always possible that they could agree to a payment plan, but why would they? You didn't keep your word when you wrote the check (your promise that you had enough money in your account to cover the checks), why should they believe you now when you are promising to pay them back in installments? If you wanted to pay in installments, why didn't you use a credit card or apply for a credit line? You better make your checks good before the DA decides to file charges.
