Legal Question in Banking Law in California

Bank backdating of transaction date

I recently had my credit card stolen on /may 27 @230am. I reported it to the bank early that morning. They were adamant that the theft and transaction took place the day before-230am may 26. Why would they lie about this and what can I do to verify the date the funds were actually stolen. They gave me a claim number only later that day after i had long initiallyreported the claim. Also, perhaps tellingly, thy didn't give me a claim number at the time I initslly reported the theft

Re: Bank backdating of transaction date

Don't Do Stuff Verbally. Write the bank a letter certified mail, return receipt requested, detailing the claim and confirming the claim number. Even if the transaction had taken place the day before, so what. If necessary you could subpoena the records from the merchant.
