Cashing checks

I got a check from the Scrap Metal place that was more than it should have been. Just wondering if I'm allowed to cash it.

My thinking is if I wrote a check for the wrong amount and someone cashed it, I don't think I would be able to get that money back or go after the person who cashed it.

Cash it and don't spend the extra money for a while. I am assuming this error is within the realm of a possible transaction -- who knows, maybe your scrap metal is worth more than you thought -- and is not, say, $10,000.
