Can an employer fire you just because you dont meet your monthly assigned goals?

Yes... california is an "at will' employment state.
the employer can terminate you for no reason at all.
Failure to meet goals is more than sufficient termination grounds.
IF YOU CAN EASILY PROVE you were really fire for
(1) REquestion Workers Comp Benefits, or
(2) being disabled and requiring a REASONABLE accommodation, or
(3) national origin
(4) Religion
(5) race
(6) gender,or
(7) sexual preference
then you should consult an employment discrimination lawyer.
Otherwise, apply for Unemployment INusrance and start job-shopping.
