Legal Question in Banking Law in California
A friend wrote me a check about a month ago. There was an altercation with a third party and the check vanished before I could cash it. We were later informed that the check had been cashed, but not by myself. The issuing bank has been informed, but what are the charges (forgery/alteration/impersonation?) and consequences against someone who fraudulently cashed the check? Can we find out who(m) was responsible or is it entirely up to the issuing bank?

"The check vanished"? Yeah, right. You can sue the person who cashed it.
