Legal Question in Banking Law in California

How to get my money back from WaMu

I was a WaMu customer. I sent a letter to WaMu at the end of March asking them to close my checking account and send the final check to my home address. I received a bank statement covering 3/64/3 showing the balance followed by another statement covering 4/45/5 showing withdrawal of the money and a balance of 0. I have never received the check. I called WaMu on 5/23 and was told that they would investigate and send a letter to me in 5-10 days telling me when I should expect to receive the check. I was also told that I should go to a local branch to resolve the problem. No letter or check came after 3 weeks. I went to a nearby branch office today and found out that WaMu had done nothing since 5/23. After making some internal phone calls, the banker at the branch told me that this should be handled by another department and there was nothing else they could do to help. He also told me that I should expect to receive a phone call or letter from WaMu telling me what the next step would be. It appears that things are going around circles. How long should I wait for the phone call or letter from WaMu? If they dont return my money, do I have any legal remedies? Thanks much for your help.
