Legal Question in Banking Law in California
do we owe money on these bills?
8 mo. ago, I sent checks via the phone to 2 collection agencies for my son. The money was never taken from my acct.We do not recall the names of these agencies and the money is still sitting in the account. No bills have been sent to my son in request for this money since then. How long do I have to keep this money in the bank? Can they still cash this or is there a limit of the time? Can I spend this amount? Thanks.

Has your son checked his credit report to see if these items are still being shown as unpaid? He may get his report free here (no obligation, gov't mandated)

Be careful assuming this might just go away without them cashing the phone check. These things have a way of reappearing even when you try to pay them off.
If you have any questions about this, feel free to contact me via phone or email.

I would close this account; and never again should you give a collection agency your bank account info.
