Legal Question in Banking Law in California
Why must i pay for tellers mistake
I entered a sweepssteak /lottery and received a check for $7000.00 in the mail. I took the check to my bank and asked the tellerif it was legal, she did'nt see anything wrong with it so she cashed it. A month later the bank took the $7000 out of my retirement account and said it was a phony check. I am outraged I protested, but the bank said they were'nt responsible. I believe the teller should be knowledgable in detecting bogus checks. Isn't the bank protected against this kind of fraud? What can I do?

Re: Why must i pay for tellers mistake
You took $7000 from the bank that didn't belong to you. It is not the banks fault that you got taken by a scam. The teller made a mistake...so what? It never was your $7000 to begin with. What can you do? Consider it a lesson learned.
