Legal Question in Banking Law in California

Privacy Act

Is there any type of privacy act that law firms have to follow as to giving out your personal information over the phone to a person that is not the one who they are dealing with? A company is trying to sue me and they called my grandmother's house and told her everything that is going on and they never even asked the relationship between her and I they just told her everything and I dont apprecaite it! They don't even know if we are related I don't feel that that should be ok in anyone's situation.

Assuming this is a CC debt; no, they can not do what they did. This is a violation of both state and federal law (FDCPA) and you are entitled to a $1000 per violation plus actual damages, costs and attorneys fees.
