Legal Question in Banking Law in California

I withdrew $1,000 from my bank on the 14th, I get a call later from the same bank saying that they accidentally gave me an extra $1,000 and I assured her that it was a mistake, that I only walked out with my $1,000.00. They kept harassing me for 4 days, I told them to stop calling me and they insisted they have me on camera taking $2,000 from the bank. They left me alone, I closed my account because they were being very rude and I did not want to bank with people like that. I now got a letter in the mail, saying I owe them $1,000 plus a $25 fee even though my account was closed when they posted the transaction. What can I do? Take them to court? The letter says it will be charged off in 30 days, maybe sooner if not paid. Do I pay them, THEN take them to court?

Don't pay. Have a lawyer send them a letter telling them to go pound sand, and if they continue you will sue them under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
