Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California
I have $50K in credit card debt, unemployed and partially disabled. If I stop making monthly payments, can the credit card companies place a lien or take my house? Houses valued at about $50K and $65K is owed on it. What about filing BK? Thank you.

Credit card companies cannot put a lien against you or your house unless they have a judgment against you. It doesn't sound like anyone's filed a lawsuit against you.
You have a house valued at only $50k? Is that because of the bad economic times? If you're keeping up on your mortgage payments, then you should be okay with the house.
BK is one way to get rid of old credit card debt. Another way is to negotiate better terms, or have an outside agency do it for you. But be careful about whom you choose if that's the way you want to go.
