Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California
I have approximately $40,000 in medical bills in collection and am unable to pay right now. I still have not decided for sure if I want to declare bankruptcy yet. If I were to be served with court papers while still in the process of making my decision; does being served make it to late to discharge the debt I am being served over?

No. Such debts are probably the number one reason people file for bankruptcy protection. A bankruptcy filing stops all civil court proceedings against the debtor.
