Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California
Bankruptcy dischares Chapter 7
My bankruptcy was discharged on 10/30/07 and I had a claim to the IRS and Social Security. The clerk told me that the hard copy of the order would not indicate if these claims were discharged. I have no assets and no resources. How will I know if I still owe these claims?

Re: Bankruptcy dischares Chapter 7
Your situation is a prime example of why you should consult an attorney rather than handle the case yourself. Some types of tax debts are dischargeable and others are not. Some debts are dischargeable unless the creditor takes action to objection. Other types of debts are automatically nondischargeable.
The rules on discharging tax debts can be difficult to understand. You should pay for some face time with a local bankruptcy attorney to get an opinion on the dischargeability of the tax debt.
