Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California

I am a single female who during her twenties went credit card crazy. I am now being sued by a credit card company for over $7000. There is no way I can pay this debt. Is bankruptcy the way for me to go. I do have a full time job, but with rent and car payments I'm left with little. Also, I lease my car. How would that be effected?
