Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California
Bankruptsy
I recently filed chapter 7 and was wondering how this will effect me at tax time. I had a house but signed it over to my ex-husband. It may be going through forclosure but the title is in his name.
a second question to this is that I had a second out on the house in my name. Does this get written off in the chapter 7?
I could not afford an attorney so I had a paralegal prepare my paperwork. They can't answer any of my questions.
I hope you can help me as it is almost tax time.

Re: Bankruptsy
Well, the answers to your questions depend in part on whether or not the paralegal did your paperwork correctly. In any event, the bankruptcy should not affect your taxes, but to be sure you should consult with a tax attorney. As for the 2nd on your house, that should have been discharged (assuming you received a discharge and assuming it was properly scheduled in your bankruptcy papers).
