Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California
When is my brankruptcy erased from consumer credit reporting agencies?
I was relieved by the courts of all credit card debt in July 1997. It has been almost 7 years since my discharge. I have established new credit and am in the process of paying off my car purchased in 1999. I applied for a credit card and was declined due to my bankruptcy. Will this ever go away? How long will this bankruptcy remain in the system? Thank you.

Bankruptcies usually stay on the credit reports for 10 years. You should look into other credit card providers who aren't nearly as picky, especially since you've improved your credit over the years, I assume.

It usually stays on your report for 10 years, but the banks should be looking at your credit history since then bankruptcy, too.
