Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California
Chapter 7 and county tax liens
My husband and I filed a chapter 7 bankruptcy that was dicharged over two years ago. There are several tax liens from a boat that was repossesed before the bankruptcy was filed. We recently ran his credit and found that the liens had not been released. We were told that they could not be released until they were paid in full. is this true? Even though we filed a chapter 7 did this not clear us of the county tax liens?

Re: Chapter 7 and county tax liens
no, bankruptcy does not remove any liens unless a specific motion is filed to remove them. In the case of tax liens, they are not removable at all through bankruptcy. You need to request a release of lien from the taxing agency.
