Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California

chapter 7 jurisdiction preference

i am residing overseas (nonmilitary), have no U.S. residence, nor have i been in the states in almost 4 years and need to file chapter 7 (no asset individual, unsecured debt). i have never filed for bankruptcy before. can this be done in absentia? perhaps with a sworn debtor's deposition made at the local U.S. consular office? which state or jurisdiction would be the best, as i believe my situation would allow me to file in a jurisdiction of my own choosing?

Re: chapter 7 jurisdiction preference

You will need to visit the U.S. for approximately four months to accomplish this (3 to establish proper venue and 1 more to get the meeting of creditors out of the way).
