For a Chapter 7 filing, the bankruptcy court charges $200.00. Each lawyer has her/his own criteria for attorney's fees. You are free to check with attorneys to find out how much they charge. Ask each lawyer what she/he does for the money, though. The lawyer should review all of your assets and debts, prepare your petition and, at the very least, attend the meeting of creditors about one month after the lawyer files the bankruptcy petition on your behalf. I would imagine that you would be interested in a Chapter 7, and depending on the specifics of each case, it could range from $500.00 to $1,500.00.
