Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California

I have an ex-friend that owes me money but now has claimed chapter 7 bankruptcy. Is this only for say commercial debt to where I can request what they owe me be exempt?

You're beat. Never again do anything that could be remotely construed as your trying to collect the debt. Contact a lawyer if: He paid you wages. He defrauded you into loaning him the money (like right before he went bankrupt). Even then it might not be worth it to pursue in bankruptcy court.

My colleague Mr. Stone is correct. You have have a short period of time to object to the debtor receiving a discharge. Do nothing and the debt will be discharge, but the it usually isn't worth the cost of pursuing the issue.
