Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California

When to file Bankruptcy

I will have to file bankruptcy in the near future and would like to know more about filing it.... Can you give me information on where to look for bankruptcy information for an individual.... I have not worked for 3 years and am still fighting a workman's comp. case.... Will the bankruptcy court put a lien on my WC case? On my rehab. monthy income? or On my social security disability? I have about $7,000 in cash and am paying my bills every month, but only have about 2 more months or so and I won't be able to pay any more, if I filed now would I lose the $7,000? If I buy things with my cash can I keep it? What can the bankruptcy court take away from you? Thank you kindly

When to File Bankruptcy

It is nearly impossible to answer your questions without a lot more information about your asset values and debt structure. WOrkers' Comp awards are generally exempt from the bankruptcy. You may be able to keep the $7,000.00 depending on what other assets you have and their values. You are looking into this at the right time, however, and I highly suggest consulting with a bankruptcy attorney in your area. If you live in the Greater Los Angeles area of in Northern California, please visit my web page (address below) and give me a call if you would like a more comprehensive consultation.
