Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California
I file chapter 7 bankruptcy Dec 15,2010, discharge hearing Jan 12, 2011, received discharge letter Mar 15,2011. I was told I need to inform the courts of any large amounts of money received for 6 months. From what date? the filing date, hearing date or the discharge date.

A large sum of money received within 6 months of the date of discharge could affect your Chapter 7 discharge if the circumstances indicate bankruptcy "abuse." The law is complicated. Consult the attorney who handled your bankruptcy case.
The trustee was referring to the filing date of your bankruptcy. If someone dies within the 180 days after you file your and the death entitles you to receive an inheritance, you must report this to the court and the trustee via a written amendment to your bankruptcy papers. It doesn't matter when you actually receive it, just that the right to receive occurs within 180 days of your filing date.
