Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California
Ex files bankrupty, I am not notified, am I liable for any debts
My ex filed bancruptcy one year after we divorced. One of the debts was for a car we purchased in both our names. I was not contacted officially by anyone about the bankruptcy. Years later and with less than $1500 left to go he stops making the court payments. The debts are reinstated and THEN, I am contacted regarding the debt. Should I have been contacted when the debt was reassigned under my ex's bankruptcy? Is bankruptcy like refinancing? When he filed bankruptcy did the debt become his? Can I be held responsible for his not following through with the bankruptcy payments regarding the car? Now, my credit is reflecting bankruptcy related debt. Is that proper and how can I now fix my credit?

His bankruptcy has no effect on your liability for the debt. you will allways be liable for the debt unless you file a bankruptcy or unless he pays it off.
