filing chapter 7 to avoid a law suite

i am being sued for 250,000 can i file chapter 7 to avoid paying this suite before

it goes to trial

question 2 how much debt must i have before i can file chapter 7?

Yes you can file a Ch. 7. There is no debt limitations in Ch. 7, but there are in a Ch. 13.
