Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California

Finding Copies of Past Bk

I filed BK in 1998 and am having no

luck trying to find my bk papers. Can

you tell me who to contact? I filed and

have called the eastern ca district.

Nothing comes up for me and I need a

copy for a potential job.

Re: Finding Copies of Past Bk

When you say "nothing comes up," where were you searching? The Courts have an online access system called Pacers, but you have to subscribe and there is a fee associated with accessing case information from their system. Alternatively, you can go to any of the Courthouses within the Eastern District of California (www.caeb.uscourts.gov) and ask to see if the file is still available in the Courthouse (almost certainly is not), online (probably not - I don't believe electronic records access was in place in 1998), or through the Federal Archives. To get copies, you have to start at the bankruptcy court, get information from them about where your file has been archived, and then contact the Federal Archive for copies, or to inspect the file at their location. I believe from the Eastern District of California, your file will be archived at the Federal Archive in Laguna Niguel, but there may be another location closer to the Eastern District. Contact the Court first then go from there. Contact them today, as this takes a little time to obtain copies, and I assume for a job you need this asap.
