Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California

Finding a lawyer

I am in the Ontario, CA area and it is looking like I am really going to need to file for BK soon. Most likely this will involve a CH13 with a 2nd lien strip.

How does one find a reliable attorney in this field, and (ballpark) how much would I need to come up with to start the process?

I've done a bit of research online in my area, but it is near impossible to tell what I am getting in to. I want somebody who is going to tell me upfront what to expect, not just blow the smoke and offer me ''the sun and the moon'' only to find out that it was really just a best case scenario.

Thank you.

Re: Finding a lawyer

You can find many qualified attorneys in your area by using the website of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. One of the key factors in doing a lien strip in a Chapter 13 is that you should have a professional appraisal showing that the value of the home is less than the balance on the first mortgage.

My office is in San Diego and you can contact me if you somehow cannot find someone in your area that you are comfortable with.
