Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California

information on a bankrupt company

How do I find out if a company has gone bankrupt?

This is a residential developer. Every development they start has a different name with an LLC after it.

Is a bankruptcy a civil case? I couldn't find anything in the superior court civil cases under their name.

thank you,

jlo

Re: information on a bankrupt company

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District maintains a telephone number to access the database -- for free! Call the main number and press the appropriate buttons for case information. Then you punch in the spelling of the company name and -- voila! you find out whether the company's filed bankruptcy. It's not foolproof, however. You can also go to the bankruptcy clerk's office at 300 N. Los Angeles Street, 1st Floor, and check on the computer there. Good luck! -Robert F. Cohen, Esq.
