What law says they cannot? Credit reporting agencies have always reported bankruptcy filngs for 10 years. You may be thinking about judgment liens, which are reported for 7 years. A person who takes advantage of the ability to file a bankruptcy and be relieved of paying his debts should realize that in return there are ramifications for choosing to do so. Creditors are entitled to know what sort of credit risk a proposed borrower is, and if a person filed bankruptcy in the past, they are more likely to do so in future--it is just common sense.
