What is the difference between matured and unmatured life insurance policies as referenced in Cal. Code Civ. Proc. 704.100 (b)-(c)?

Re: Life Insurance Policies
A matured policy has already begun payments to the beneficiary, usually due to the death of the insured. An unmatured policy is one that has not matured.
