Wiping the slate clean of debt through bankruptcy on the eve of a marital fresh start is a sound, ahem proposal. If your girlfriend's bankruptcy case is pending then new or anticipated new-income [in the way of community (marital) income] factors into chapter 7 bankruptcy eligibility or chapter 13 bankruptcy payment amounts.
